Where is the best sushi restaurant in New York City?

I am looking for a great sushi restaurant in New York City. Preferably on the upper east side.

  3. If you are a traditionalist here are a couple of recommendations. I had the pleasure of working for a Japanese company and have visited only the best. If you reall want to do it up...sit at the corner of the sushi bar that's where the best of the Sushi Chefs work and order Omakase...chef's choice.

    Yasuda -

Sushi Den (I think there are a couple of them you want the one on like 48 between madison and 5th I think)

Ushiwakamaru - Its down on Houston in Soho

You are going to spend some money but they are the best.

  10. 1. Sushi Sen-In - it's expensive, but the selection of seafood is unbeatable.

    2. Blue Ribbon Sushi - extremely fresh, always crowded (no reservations accepted). They also opened one in the Time Warner building that offers cooked fusion fare as well as all the sushi of the downtown locale. Plus, it's open late.

    3. One of my favorite places on the upper east offers sushi, but there is no sushi bar. Most Japanese people frequent the restaurant for their superb shabu-shabu. I love their sushi (the selection is far from interesting, but the fish is always sparklingly fresh and tasty). The restaurant is called Wajima. They have a fantastic sake list. They do not do takeout.

    4. Geisha has great sushi and good fusion fare. It is expensive, but it is totally worth it - FYI, the sushi bar has Anime playing during lunch, not so sure about dinner.

    5. I have never been, but Karuma Zushi has excellent ratings - Zagat gave it a 28 for food.

    6. Poke (also have not been to, but highly rated)

    7. Sushi of Gari (have not been there, but highly rated)

    8. Sushi Seki (I have heard terrific things about this restaurant and was planning on going)

The last five are definitely on the upper east - all are worth visiting.

  15. "I'm sorry but we don't have hot chocolate here" - who says you have to go to Italy to be in a real Italian restaurant? Just go to New York!
