Try Cafe Lalo. It was featured in a scene in "You've Got Mail". Also, try the cafe Serendipity in the Upper East Side. It's close to Bloomingdales and the major shopping stores so you can take a break from shopping and get a quick drink. However, Serendipity is a bit expensive. If all else fails, there are a bunch of Dunk N' Donuts and Starbucks around. Personally, I like independent coffee houses. Conglomerates take all the fun out of living.
i heard of this new place call " starbucks" or something like that, i have never been there but they tell me its nice, i'm not sure if there is one in this "New York" you speak of, but maybe?
My recommendation goes out to Grey Dog's down in the West Village. The staff is courteous, the environment is calming, and oh yes...the coffee is excellent. It's really a cool place to check out. If espresso is your cup of tea..um..coffee, then you can't go wrong with 9th street Espresso. Both places serve a superior cup than Starbucks IMHO.
Dude we went to this cafe in New York where I'm pretty sure they served that! I'll try and find out what it was called...
