New York City is the best city in the world! Definitely visit, there are so many things to do so make sure you plan in advance. You wont be disappointed!
This is not a good question considering that you can not compare the two cities. Not by a long shot. They are both great in different ways and it all depends on what you want out of your life. NYC is for people who don't want to wait for anything or have no patience for anything since everything is so condensed you don't have to go far for much of anything. San Diego is a lot more laid back calm but it does have L.A. close by and Mexico right there. You would have to ask a more specific question like which has better Mexican food or which one is better for an Italian American, etc.
In terms of attractions, diversity, multiculturalism, restaurants, etc New York is the better of the two. It really has everything you could ever want, plus all the famous attractions like Central Park, the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, Park Ave, the locally owned restaurants and cafes, etc. San Diego is a beautiful city, but it's nowhere near as large and famous as NYC. San Diego is a good medium sized city to visit after seeing NYC and other larger cities, or if you just prefer the beach and warm weather.
