What would be the fastest way to get from New Jersey to the New York Public Library in Manhattan?
Also probably the fastest that's the least expensive. I was assuming driving to Staten Island and taking the ferry and then a bus uptown would be the better of the ways. Any other suggestions?
The easiest (and probably cheapest) way to go is to take the train. Depending upon where in New Jersey you're starting from, either use the New Jersey Transit (NJT) commuter train, or the PATH subway. NJT arrives at Penn Station, which is at 34th Street and 7th Avenue, the PATH station is a block away from there. The main NY Public Library (the research collection with the stone lions out front) is at 42nd Street and 5th Avenue. If the weather is nice, walk it (about a 20 minute walk). If the weather is bad, it's a $10 taxi ride, or you can take the subway (the 1, 2 or 3 are easiest) uptown from Penn Station to 42nd Street, and then the 42nd Street shuttle train to Grand Central, which is a short walk from the library.
The NY public Library has a number of branches in Manhattan and I'll assume you mean the main building on 5th Av & 42nd St.
If you are considering driving to Staten Island then you must be somewhat south of Bayonne.
A bus would take way too long and would not go there directly. Instead take the subway.
After you get off the Ferry at Manhattan, walk up along Battery Park and take an UPTOWN #4 or #5 subway train to Grand Central/42nd St. You can exit to the street at 42nd St and walk a couple of blocks to 5th Avenue OR at Grand Central transfer to the #7 train ( use the stairs down on the #4/5 platform )headed toward Times Square, take the #7 one stop to 5th Av (if you do take the 7 at Grand Central, use thje last staircase on the platform at the rear of the 5th Av station. when you get to the street the library will be right behind you. The main entrance is around the corner on 5th Av).

ReplyDeleteWhen I meet a girl from ny she goes dam you live all the way in jersey!! It takes me 9 minutes to get into manhattan with out traffic.
