In New York City, is Ozone Park considered to be a good neighborhood?

I came across a reference to it in an old novel, and the story made it sound sort of upper middle class. Is this true, or outdated? (The book was almost 30 years old.)

  2. Grew up there .

Moved away over 40 years ago.

Overall, back when the book was written ,it was working middle class but there were a few "better" areas & some worse.

When I was a kid , almost everyone had at least one parent that was "off the boat" from somewhere in Europe.

In my area it was Italian, Polish, Irish w/ smaller neighborhoods within bigger neighborhoods.

It was mostly safe & clean.

Mostly single family houses , some attached row houses & a few 3 or 4 family homes.

There were still some vacant lots to play in & there were still a few small farms nearby.

Some old timers kept goats & chickens .

    Anyhow enough memory lane .

The book is probably not far off for that time period in a certain part of OZ.

    Probably outdated though.

  3. I live there now. Ozone park is a middle class area of modest homes, mostly low density housing. I would say that upper middle class is definitely wrong. However, drift a mile south into Howard Beach and then you will find some upper middle class mixed in.

I moved her almost thirty years ago, it was not upper middle class then either.

I still consider it a good neighborhood.

  5. Uhhhh no. It's not upper middle class...It's like middle class @ most. A tad sketchy..but generally pretty clean and not tons of crime. It's livable and reasonable. Not too bad.

  7. I wouldn't consider it upper middle class ... Their are a lot of Guyanese and African immigrants in Ozone Park. Its not the best of neighborhoods, but not the worst.

  9. You're considered snooty in New York if you order a beer that has more than one word in the title. :) Sierra Nevada? nono.
