About how long did it take to reach New York from Ireland in the 19th century?

I'm doing a geneology thing, and discovered that my great great great grandfather immigrated from Ireland and arrived in New York (or Boston, but I think the travel time would be pretty similar between the two) in 1849. Just trying to figure out about how long he stayed on the ship for.

  3. I visited Ireland this summer and toured a replica of one of the immigration ships. As I recall, they said the ships were at sea for 5 or 6 weeks. It was a fascinating ship tour. The space they had was very, very small with several people sharing a berth. vacation.

  13. Delay revision on Ireland until I'm back in York. Y/N? A few books I need. Parnell's fine, wrote an essay on him, Ireland otherwise less so

  17. Sorry to butt-in, it usually takes 3-4 weeks for SA stuff to reach me in the UK, so I would imagine be the same for Ireland.
